Appendicitis

Your appendix is a small worm-shaped tube at the base of the first part of the your large intestine. Small pieces of stool can get caught in your appendix and block it. Your appendix then gets infected and will rupture if it is not surgically removed.

An infected appendix is called acute appendicitis.

Appendicitis is most common in children but can occur at any age.
